Assignment 2.6: Arguing About Accessibility and Imagining an Inclusive Environment
::Callaway Memorial Center::
This assignment will be focused on evaluating the accessibility of one of the site annotations, Callaway Memorial Center, on a map from the class project, “Mapping Accessibility.” For this particular assignment, accessibility is defined as whether a place is “capable of being entered or approached” by everyone (Oxford University Press.). It is important to evaluate accessibility for everyone on campus because it not only aligns with Emory’s value of inclusion and but also provides equal opportunities for the people at Emory (Emory University). For instance, if a student could not take English 101 class at Callaway Memorial Center simply because one could not enter the building, this student is not only excluded from the class but also from the entire experience and opportunities that one could have been exposed to. In other words, this student is gaining unfair disadvantage because of inaccessibility of the building.
